Most hummingbird paintings are bright on bright, and I wanted to try the opposite. So this one is a deep red bird against a black sky, with lavender streaking off the wings where they’re moving too fast to see.
The daisies underneath are still open. Hummingbirds really do feed at the edges of the day, right as the light is going, and that’s the hour I was trying to catch here.
It’s acrylic on a 3.5 x 2.5 inch card, sealed with gloss varnish and signed on the back. It comes in a clear protective sleeve, ready to display or tuck into a frame.
